(NEWS) Audio Note (UK) Releases a New Discrete Ladder DAC Module: The IZVOR

Audio Note (UK) releases IZVOR, the first-ever Discrete Ladder DAC module built with Premium Analogue Components.

Audio Note (UK) has announced the release of the IZVOR, the first-ever discrete ladder DAC module built using premium analogue components. Following twelve years of research and development, Audio Note believes the IZVOR will challenge the perceived weaknesses of digital audio.

Historically, ladder DAC arrays were constructed using many miniature surface-mount resistors. “We looked at every ladder DAC on the market,” says Audio Note (UK) founder Peter Qvortrup. “In each case, it was clear that the quality of components used in the array was restricting performance. Our thinking was simple: if we want a ladder DAC to sound analogue, don’t build it like a computer. Instead, use the same calibre of resistors as in our phono stages.”

IZVOR designer Darko Greguras expanded further: “In much the same way musical instruments are designed, the key to the musical quality of the IZVOR, and all audio design, lies in the harmony and complementary properties of the components. By designing an architecture that allowed for larger resistors, I was able to fine-tune the voicing from a far greater range of Audio Note parts. We even designed an entirely new resistor specifically for this project.”

This isn’t the first time Audio Note (UK) has gone it alone to release disruptive digital audio innovations. In 1996, they launched the DAC5, the world’s first non-oversampling DAC. While the “Direct from Disc” philosophy was once a hotly contested topic, it is more commonplace today, with many other manufacturers following suit.

The IZVOR technology is available across the company’s flagship range, including the Fifth Element, DAC5, and DAC4.1 Balanced. In line with Audio Note’s commitment to product longevity, an upgrade scheme is available for existing owners of these models. Pricing is available upon request from your Audio Note dealer.
